Hillary Might Have no Other Choice for VP

Before the nomination process became a real horse race, I felt Hillary wouldn't select Obama as a running mate for Machiavellian reasons which are not politically correct enough for Hillary--or me--to discuss directly with others. As it turns out, the race will likely depend on the superdelegates. If Obama enters the convention with competetive numbers of delegates and Clinton wins, what do you think the Black community will think of the "Democratic Process" of the "Democratic" Party? I'll hazard a guess that the "stealing an election" perception that Democrats have about Bush's 2000 election will be far eclipsed by that of the Democrats' most reliable block of voters--and in this particular case, it will be a deserved perception. If for nothing else, Hillary might be forced to take Obama to help mollify black outrage at the coup.

If Hillary wins and does select Obama, there could be a new, Machiavellian reason for the Republicans to cringe if McCain wins by a close margin: there will likely be a significant discrepancy between the exit polls and the tabulated results--and the discrepancy will favor Hillary in the exit polling. Republicans who vote will proclaim to the pollsters that they voted for McCain. Democrats who are closet sexists, closet racists, or both, might vote for McCain and might be embarrassed to tell the truth to the pollsters. Charges of massive vote fraud will once again cloud the Presidency.

I think it would be better for all--the Republicans, the Democrats, and the Nation--if Obama got the nomination, selected anybody other than Hillary for VP, and conducted a clean race with McCain on the issues.
